This region is a rich agricultural area and contains many national parks. Tamworth is a major city in the region and is Australia's major centre for country music. Tamworth holds the annual Australasian Country Music Festival. Armidale offers a diverse range of activities such as horse riding, abseiling, fishing, fossicking, bushwalking and other sporting facilities.  The town of Glen Innes is located at a high altitude and is known for its sapphire mining and visitors to the town can fossick for sapphires. Inverell has historic public buildings and a mining museum. Inverell was also a centre for sapphires as well as silver. The town of Tenterfield is the most northerly town in New South Wales and is the last stopping point before you reach Queensland.
